The origins of Halling & Cayo, S.C. date to 1970, when attorneys David Walther and David Halling formed a partnership.

Both litigators, the attorneys met across the table at the deposition of an elderly client of Attorney Walther who had been struck from behind on the freeway while driving at approximately 25 miles per hour.

When Attorney Halling asked Attorney Walther’s client why she had been traveling on the expressway at such a slow rate of speed, she replied, with equal measures of incredulity and irritation, “Well, young man, I didn't want my car to tip over!”

Walther and Halling followed the deposition with lunch, struck up a friendship, and the partnership ensued. The rest, as they say, is history.

The later addition of attorneys Richard Cayo, Patricia Grove, Mark Sanders, Christopher Kolb, and Scott Burns broadened and deepened the scope of the services we can offer our clients.

Located in a converted warehouse in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, our firm's culture is friendly and informal. We have rejected conventional law firm models and adopted a more flexible internal organization.
